Busy April Member Meeting

April’s meeting is going to be a busy one! We don’t just have one but two special presentations. Definitely a meeting you won’t want to miss.

UROC member Doug Hillson will present the results of research and analysis related to wind speed at different altitudes and how to use this information to predict rocket landing location. Doug will discuss theory of the planetary boundary layer and on using the currently available information to make a best estimate of landing locations during a rocket flight by utilizing publicly available wind data.

We will also have UROC member Kip Daugirdas give us a presentation about his recent launch to 145,000 (yes, that is one hundred and forty-five thousand) feet at Balls this past September. This launch was captured on video and had a full recovery of the craft. The rocket was a two Stage 4” booster to 3” sustainer weighing in around 60 pounds and was powered by an N-2500 in the booster and staged to an M-685 in the sustainer.

In addition to these great presentations,  (Thanks Kip and Doug for being willing to help out!) we will have our regular show and tell and talk about the upcoming UROC events.

Please arrive on time and plan for a full night!

Dec 12, 2016 - UROC Holiday Blast

archibaldEarly-Registration is closing up this weekend. If you haven't signed up online yet, please do so now!

The Utah Rocket Club's annual holiday party takes place on Monday, December 12th at 7pm. This year the party will be at Archibald's Restaurant located in Gardner Village at 1100 West 7800 South - West Jordan, Utah  Get Directions.

The meal choices include Gardner Chicken, which is grilled chicken breast with Black Forest ham, Swiss cheese and mushroom cream sauce. The chicken is served with rice pilaf and fresh vegetables. The other delicious choice is their Salt & herb crusted, slow-roasted prime rib which is served with herbed new potatoes and fresh vegetables. Finally, each person also receives their choice of "Archibald's Carrot Cake" or "Death by Chocolate cake" for dessert.  If you have kids coming with you , children 12 and under can pick any of the items available on the restaurants children's menu on the night of the banquet.

The Christmas Odd-Roc contest is once again a GO as well so get those entries put together. Remember, your creation has to be able to fly as a rocket and recover safely (or at least look like it will). The winner will be determined by public vote and there will be an adult and a children's winner. The rocket must be new to the contest (not entered in previous years) and can celebrate any winter holiday you like.

Please plan on purchasing your tickets to attend in advance We do have to pay the restaurant as a group so on line payment is the best to reserve a spot. This party is a great chance to take a look back at this year's fun and to look forward to next year. This will also be a great time to meet your 2017 UROC officers. In addition to your contest entry, bring your memories from this year's events, feel free to share them with the group.
