UROC's October launch looks to be a promising event. With the cancellation of the Fire Restrictions this week by the BLM and State Fire Agency we just need to keep our fingers crossed so that the weather-gods cooperate with our plans. The final list of contest events for the "UROC Fall Open" or "UFO" have just been released:
The March 2006 UROC launch will be our first full-scale sport launch of the year. This will also be our first NAR contest event for the year. Events at March launch include:
A Parachute Duration
B Streamer Duration
C Boost Glider
Open Spot Landing
UROC/'s Pioneer Regional Meet has been held at Pony Express Test Range for over ten years. This year, it was held on Memorial Day weekend, apart from the monthly UROC Sport Launch (now scheduled for the third weekend of the month). Because of the separation, UROC participation was down from previous years. However, the CRASH section from Colorado showed up in sufficient numbers to allow us to have a regional. Their appearance was welcome as we would need a lot of their expertise running the contest.
At the April, 2003 Sport Launch the M.U.L.E. contest was held. The event was held at the Pony Express Test Range. The weather held out for us and everybody had a great time during the event. The results are as follows:
You have another chance to compete in UFO ?05. The wind was too much for the October date so we have postponed the launch to the November 19th slot. As a reminder, the events are A Parachute Duration, C Streamer Duration, C boost-glider Duration, D Eggloft Altitude and Open Spot Landing. The window for the Eggloft Altitude tracking will be 1:00 to 3:00. We advise contestants to have their egglofters prepped and ready by 1:00 so that we can get the tracking done quickly. You can fly the other events at any time of the day until the range closes.
Pioneer ?06 Regional Update: We have selected the events for our Pioneer Regional Meet to be held at the May launch date. The events will be the same as those of UFO ?05 (A Parachute Duration, C Streamer Duration, C Boost-glider Duration, D Eggloft Altitude and Open Spot Landing) plus Future/Fiction Scale.
The Springfling Contest was held at the April launch a continuation of March contest. A big thanks go to Fred & Deb Williams, Cathy Redd, Michael Funk, and Diane for the tracking help they gave. Each spent a few hours in the hot sun doing this thankless job and their help was much appreciated. Also a big thanks goes to those who helped with timing. Unfortunately too many names to mention. Another thanks to Mitch Adamson for providing a system to ensure all motors lit for the cluster event. Finally another big thanks to Fred Williams for filling in with CD duties when my son needed attention.
NAR competition has been a part of UROC throughout the section?s history, and Pioneer has been UROC?s regional meet. This year, Pioneer will be held in conjunction with the UROC May sport launch scheduled for May 14 and 15 at the Pony Express Test Range. The events will be:
Open Spot Landing
4xA Cluster Altitude
D Streamer, Multi-Round
Thanks to some enthusiastic support from Fred Williams and a number of other members, UROC is enjoying a sort of renaissance of competition. Many members braved harsh weather to compete in UROC's first regional competition of the 2000-2001 competition year. As a result, more than a few UROC names will soon be appearing on the NAR web site in the the TopTen list.In A division, Scott Johnson is currently in 3rd with 810 points.
This weekend promises to be an exciting one. Our monthly sport launch is highlighted by Pioneer '04 which is our regional NAR contest event for 2004. Members of NAR sections in Colorado and other states will be coming down to try to set some new records and win a few contests. The contests held this year will be:
Please note that the D SuperRoc Altitude will be held Saturday only and Sport Scale turn-in is 5pm Saturday. It will be flown Sunday.
As usual, we need all kinds of help to make this launch happen. If you've got a few minutes to spare, please take a moment and sign up to help with range duty. The Duty Roster provides you the abilility to pick what you'd duty you'd like to do and when. It's really easy and we'd sure appreciate it if we could all start using it.
According to the NOAA forecast, the weather is looking like it's going to hold for us. Make sure to give our visitors from out of state a big UROC welcome!
