Sticker Shock 23

stickershock2Stickershock creates vinyl stickesr for rocketeers and hobbyist's creations. Stickershock23.com was founded in late 2007 completely by accident. The Owners, Mark and Marian Hayes, have been rocket addicts since they were very young. Mark started building and flying rockets with his dad when he was about 8 years old, and it stuck with him through his entire life. Marian got interested in rockets after meeting Mark, and it just went crazy from there.

They are both TRA-certified high power rocketeers. Mark got his LIII certification in 2005 flying his scratch-built, 10" diameter Mercury Redstone.  Mark and Marian were married in 2004 at Rockstock, Southern California's biggest launch, right on the flightline with all their friends flying rockets when they said "I do."

A year later, they had a son, Jayden, who is as crazy as his dad is about rockets. Jayden flew his first rocket when he was just weeks old!

Stickershock started on a whim. One day, Mark was doing his thing: building an upscale of an old Estes kit {one of his favorites scaled up 300%), but had no idea where to get decals to finish the job. After trying to make them by hand (and failing miserably), He got together with a neighbor who made "wall quotes" and other artsy decals from home. He asked her if she could upscale the stock decals, and a couple hours later, she did. The second he saw the decals, Mark knew that every rocketeer needed these and stickershock23.com was born.!

Stickershock23.com has made literally thousands of decals for rocketeers all over the world, including USA, Canada, Australia, England and many more. Stickershock decals have been on rockets big and small, for kids, families and even NASA projects, including the Max Launch Abort system. Stickershock decals have been featured on rockets appearing on the TV shows like "LDRS Large dangerous rocket ships" and more.

Today, you can custom order anything from simple lettering to full rocket wraps and more.

Photos by Nadine

nadine2

If you have been to a UROC launch on the Salt Flats, you have no doubt seen Nadine out there. Nadine Kinney started her rocketry photography business on the Salt Flats when we hosted LDRS17.  Back then it was a process of shooting pictures all day long and then running into Salt Lake to have them processed and printed and then have them in an album for people to look at and order the next day. The digital age has made that a little bit easier, but the creative and artful portion never gets easier. Nadine makes it look easy though. Nadine's photographs have been featured in High Power Rocketry, Sport Rocketry, Extreme Rocketry and Popular Science publications.

Often seen scurrying around numerous launch sites including LDRS and Black Rock / Balls, Nadine has truly made rocketry action shots an art form. You can view some of her work on her website. She will be taking a group photo during HellFire. Definitely one to get in on. Nadine also publishes the "Rockets of High Power Calendar" each year with pictures from launches all over the country. Make sure to check that out as well when you see her at HellFire!

North Coast Rocketry

northcoastMatt Steele, is the owner of Notrh Coast Rocketry (NCR) and a UROC member. When you see a North Coast  Rocketry model fly you will encounter an absolute treat of sight, sound and performance.

North Coast Rocketry was founded in 1984 in northeast Ohio on the premise that rockets larger than Estes "D" types could be far more fun and interesting to build and fly. Estes acquired the manufacturing rights to North Coast products from 1996-1999.

Now Matt has brought North Coast Rocketry back, from from sales goals, production deadlines or corporate approvals. NCR now is just the models and accessories that Matt likes to build and fly for himself and his closest friends.

Matt is an accomplised designer, having produced models for Estes (Big Daddy), Quest (Planet Probe), HobbyLab (SR-71 Blackbird) as well as most of the older NCR designs.  Matt is also an accomplished model rocketry competitor having won several national and international medals. More than 40 years of experience is in the NCR designs you can build and fly.

Donner "Party" Challenge

The Donner Party Challenge has existed in the slightly warped mind of Tim Boschert for a few years now. After some refinements and changes to the contest (no eating people) we have come up with what we think might be a lot of fun. This contest not only combines a level of experience in motor selection but of recovery techniques and build quality. Plus it's kind of exciting.  Essentially, the contestant has to fly a rocket, recover the rocket (safely and intact), return the rocket and then enjoy a nice drink after their recovery. This is a timed event, but it really doesn't matter how fast you run or walk, there are way more factors that will determine your time than how quick you run.

WATCH THE BLOCKBUSTER INTRO VIDEO HERE!!!

RULES:

  1. Sign in at the Contest Table and fill out the contest entry form. You will be provided with your can of sticky sweet gold (Yukon Launch) to fly in your rocket and the payload section will be sealed.
  2. Safely and succesfully launch your rocket with the provided energy drink (Yukon Launch).
  3. Prior to launch the rocket must be inspected by the RSO and adhere to all NAR and TRA safety rules. A G80 or greater is required (Das Rockets is providing a special discount on G80's for this event. See them at HellFire) Make sure to check your thrust to weight ratio, because the RSO will. You must be certified to fly the motor that you are flying.
  4. After launch, and once the Range is announced as open the timer will begin, the contestant must go and retrieve their rocket from the range, all the while the clock is ticking.
  5. The contestant should return their rocket directly to the the contest table for inspection. The rocket must be intact, the payload bay must not be opened. The energy drink MUST BE left intact in the rocket's payload bay.
  6. The contestant will then open the payload bay with the contest director as a witness. If the drink is intact, the contestant must open the can and drink the deliciousness that is "Yukon Launch" until it is gone.
  7. Once the drink is gone, the contest director will record the elapsed time since the range open announcement.
  8. At 4 PM on Saturday, whoever had the shortest time from "range open" to finishing their drink will be declared the winner
  9. Prizes will be awarded for 1st place only.

The fine print:

The can of "Launch" will fit in a payload bay of 14.5cm by 5.5cm

The payload bay will be sealed by the contest director. If it is open prior to returning it to the contest desk, the flight is disqualified.

LOC Precision

MoonRockets1 300x146LOC PRECISION was acquired by Barry Lynch in 2000 from Ron Schultz of Ohio. Over the next 16 years Barry took LOC to the next level by investing in LOC to do moreā€¦.fly higher, more affordably and added touches of modern day quality. What Barry has given to LOC, he set industry standards for others to follow. Expanding the company to do more for education, youth and investing in the next generation of HPR flyers. In November 2016 LOC changed hands again, and it was more than a business transaction. It turned into a friendship! For Dave Barber and Jason Turicik of Plymouth Wisconsin it is a dream come true to have the blessing to work with their passions for design every day. Dave and Jason bring experience as previous owners of Yank Enterprises. As young entrepreneurs they had a catalog of over 20 rocket kits before the age of 21.

They bring fresh insight and new ideas. They promise to deliver exciting new selections, but also bring back "Retro" versions of the much loved classics from the good ol' days. They love working close with customers, and are open to phone calls, emails and Facebook feedback. They are happy to discuss custom orders and special requests. Along with traditions they will work to keep the relationships with educators to pass this hobby along to the next generation starting out through school. Very importantly, they value the ability to create and offer kits that are affordable for a Dad to take kids out to a launch. These guys are dedicated to maintain the high quality and service that LOC provided to customers over the last 31 years.
