Holiday Blast 2017 Cancellation

Speaking on behalf of the Utah Rocket Club, it is with regret that we inform you that this year's Holiday Blast event that was scheduled to take place on December 11th at Archibald's restaruant has been canceled. The reason for coming to this unfortunate decision was due to low registration numbers.

Thank you to those of you who expressed interest in this event, and an additional nod of appreciation to those of you who did register. Full refunds for registration payments have been issued and should be seen within the next few business days if not already.

Over the next few weeks the plans for upcoming events and activities for UROC in 2018 will be announced and wlll hopefully provide many opportunities for UROC members to enjoy time together.

Our sincerest apologies for this change, we look forward to making up for it in the coming year.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this notice, please feel free to reach out to us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or to myself directly.

We appreciate your support over the years and look forward to flying with you again soon.

HellFire 22 - Front Page News

Salt Lake Tribune's Robert Kirby is no stranger to HellFire. He has visited and written about Hellfire many times over the years. Here is what the Salt Lake Tribune says about Kirby: "Fool-in-residence Robert Kirby has been lampooning life in Zion since 1994. He has won numerous literary awards of dubious note but is most proud of blowing things up — particularly the tempers of those who take themselves too seriously."  Sounds like the perfect guy to write about HellFire.  His stories always tie back to the community and culture and a way that makes you laugh just a little. This year, Kirby followed UROC member Travis Tabbal as he attempted his NAR Level 3 certification flight at HellFire. Please take a minute and read this great article and the absolutely fantastic photos that Tribune photog Scott Sommerdorf  took.

Congratulations to Travis by the way!

Sticker Shock 23

stickershock2Stickershock creates vinyl stickesr for rocketeers and hobbyist's creations. Stickershock23.com was founded in late 2007 completely by accident. The Owners, Mark and Marian Hayes, have been rocket addicts since they were very young. Mark started building and flying rockets with his dad when he was about 8 years old, and it stuck with him through his entire life. Marian got interested in rockets after meeting Mark, and it just went crazy from there.

They are both TRA-certified high power rocketeers. Mark got his LIII certification in 2005 flying his scratch-built, 10" diameter Mercury Redstone.  Mark and Marian were married in 2004 at Rockstock, Southern California's biggest launch, right on the flightline with all their friends flying rockets when they said "I do."

A year later, they had a son, Jayden, who is as crazy as his dad is about rockets. Jayden flew his first rocket when he was just weeks old!

Stickershock started on a whim. One day, Mark was doing his thing: building an upscale of an old Estes kit {one of his favorites scaled up 300%), but had no idea where to get decals to finish the job. After trying to make them by hand (and failing miserably), He got together with a neighbor who made "wall quotes" and other artsy decals from home. He asked her if she could upscale the stock decals, and a couple hours later, she did. The second he saw the decals, Mark knew that every rocketeer needed these and stickershock23.com was born.!

Stickershock23.com has made literally thousands of decals for rocketeers all over the world, including USA, Canada, Australia, England and many more. Stickershock decals have been on rockets big and small, for kids, families and even NASA projects, including the Max Launch Abort system. Stickershock decals have been featured on rockets appearing on the TV shows like "LDRS Large dangerous rocket ships" and more.

Today, you can custom order anything from simple lettering to full rocket wraps and more.

Photos by Nadine

nadine2

If you have been to a UROC launch on the Salt Flats, you have no doubt seen Nadine out there. Nadine Kinney started her rocketry photography business on the Salt Flats when we hosted LDRS17.  Back then it was a process of shooting pictures all day long and then running into Salt Lake to have them processed and printed and then have them in an album for people to look at and order the next day. The digital age has made that a little bit easier, but the creative and artful portion never gets easier. Nadine makes it look easy though. Nadine's photographs have been featured in High Power Rocketry, Sport Rocketry, Extreme Rocketry and Popular Science publications.

Often seen scurrying around numerous launch sites including LDRS and Black Rock / Balls, Nadine has truly made rocketry action shots an art form. You can view some of her work on her website. She will be taking a group photo during HellFire. Definitely one to get in on. Nadine also publishes the "Rockets of High Power Calendar" each year with pictures from launches all over the country. Make sure to check that out as well when you see her at HellFire!

North Coast Rocketry

northcoastMatt Steele, is the owner of Notrh Coast Rocketry (NCR) and a UROC member. When you see a North Coast  Rocketry model fly you will encounter an absolute treat of sight, sound and performance.

North Coast Rocketry was founded in 1984 in northeast Ohio on the premise that rockets larger than Estes "D" types could be far more fun and interesting to build and fly. Estes acquired the manufacturing rights to North Coast products from 1996-1999.

Now Matt has brought North Coast Rocketry back, from from sales goals, production deadlines or corporate approvals. NCR now is just the models and accessories that Matt likes to build and fly for himself and his closest friends.

Matt is an accomplised designer, having produced models for Estes (Big Daddy), Quest (Planet Probe), HobbyLab (SR-71 Blackbird) as well as most of the older NCR designs.  Matt is also an accomplished model rocketry competitor having won several national and international medals.
