September 2005 Launch Featured

As many of you are already aware, this September launch is a special event. In addition to being one of the best times of year (weather-wise) at the launch site we will also have a large group of Boy Scouts joining us for the day.

Drake spoke to the BLM today (Monday, September 12th) and it looks like they will be lifiting the fire restriction at the Pony Express Test Range in time for our launch this weekend.  Additionally, the weather is looking like it will be cooperating with us for this launch.

Another good note is that Tim from Giant Leap Hobbies will be on-hand for the launch and will have all kinds of great stuff available for you to purchase.

We still need people signed up to help with range duty on Saturday and Sunday for our sport launch. Please sign up for at least one hour of time during these two days. You can sign up here:

Here is the schedule for the BSA/UROC launch this weekend:

On Friday, Drake Kirkham will arrive around 4pm, scouts will begin arriving no earlier than 5pm.  They will build rockets until they are done.  Randall Redd will speak at 8:30 pm to the whole group.  They are trying for lights out at 11:00 pm

On Saturday  the scouts will wake up at 6:45 am.  They'll hold a Flag ceremony at 7:15 am.  Launching and Merit
Badge classes will begin at 9:00 am.  Launching may start earlier if we are ready. (This is on a seperate range from our usual launch range)

Drake is shooting for being done by Noon, an awards ceremony will take place at 12:30pm and all of the scouts will be headed out for home except for those that want to stay and watch the club, by 1:00 pm.

If you want to help out, there is plenty to do! Just show up!  It would be really cool if the scouts got to see a few "Crowd Pleasers" from the club during that 9:00 to 12:00 am block.

As always, please, check this site, right up until the time you get ready to walk out the door to head out. Changes can occur at a moments notice in regards to flying conditions and permissions from controlling authorities so always check this site before coming to the launch.
