Neal Baker, President, began the meeting by reminding everyone of the launch this weekend. The Pratt System should be back, and one boy scout troop will be joining our launch. There was a discussion about making November's launch a Tripoli Research Launch on Saturday. After the discussion, which included talk about waivers, distances, sponsors, etc., a proposal was made. The proposal was that the November launch be changed from a NAR sport launch to a Tripoli Research launch. It was seconded then voted upon. It was unanimous in the affirmative. The rules will be posted on the website. Then a discussion ensued about checking for NAR or Tripoli memberships. The discussion included ways to best check for membership. It was decided that Cathy will check on the cost of lanyards for UROC to hold membership cards. Steve Anderson discussed the contest this weekend. He showed a rocket that could be used in 3 events. We will need 10 people to make it a contest - so join NAR if you haven't. Tim Boschert reported on BALLS. He said the Friday weather was perfect. There were 256 people who were pre-registered for the event. The weather turned nasty for the rest of the weekend, however. There was snow by Sunday as everyone left. Our last launch had 150 scouts in attendance. There were approximately 104 that flew rockets. Kelly Hall set up the range - Thanks Kelly! The problems were that the scouts rockets fell apart when they were checked by the safety officer. Also that the motor mounts were missing on some. It was a small UROC launch, but a BIG scout launch. Thanks to all who attended and helped out. There was a discussion about Hellfire 15. Places and times were discussed. The discussion was tabled and left for the new officers to meet with the BLM and decide about holding Hellfire next year. NARAM 2010 was discussed. It will be held the same week as UROC traditionally holds Hellfire. Show and tell was started by Tim Boschert showing us his ARLISS style rocket. He told us about the contest for university students that sends an electronic package up in a rocket and is tracked from 3 different points for 7 minutes. He told us that 40 teams met at Black Rock to hold the competition. He showed us his tri-point for shock-cord that reduces spin. The rocket he showed was 9 ½ feet and red and gold (Florida State colors). He also told us about another contest that requires an RC car to be flown then deployed to certain GPS coordinates. Wesley Anderson showed off two rockets. One was black with great orange and yellow detail. The other was yellow and orange and white. See you at the launch! |
