At 11 AM on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 Captain James Lovell, a former NASA astronaut and commander of the Apollo 13 mission will give a forum address to all students, faculty, administrators, and visitors at Brigham Young University in the Marriott Center.
James "Jim" Arthur Lovell, Jr., (born March 25, 1928) is a former NASA astronaut and a retired captain in the United States Navy, most famous as the commander of the Apollo 13 mission, which suffered an explosion en route to the Moon but was brought back safely to Earth by the efforts of the crew and mission control. Lovell was also the command module pilot of Apollo 8, the first Apollo mission to enter lunar orbit. Lovell is a recipient of the Congressional Space Medal of Honor and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

With the FVM-2 static test scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday, May 1), ATK Thiokol is expecting close to 400 guests, plus approximately 800 students who will visit the Rocket Garden between 10 a.m. and noon.
Due to the congestion anticipated with the school buses, vans, etc., the parking lot by the Rocket Garden (main plant) will be closed to all personal vehicles.

2XL Corporation is forming a team to compete in the Google Lunar XPrize competition, and they are looking for a team that will be comprised of individuals that are interested in making a powerful and meaningful impact on the world. Not only in terms of dollar winnings from the competition, but in terms of pushing the envelope of technology, processes and intellectual rigor into helping society.
The Project is in Phase I; forming its membership to effectively compete for the prize; and secondarily, they are hoping to partner with Rocketry Clubs and/or individuals to work on test flights of rockets to reach orbit.

It used to be that a kid's chances of going into space were about as slim as his chances of playing in the NBA. Not any more. Astronauts, investors, and engineers are gathering at Third International Symposium for Personal Spaceflight to figure out how to get the average Joe into space.

Amid patriotic pomp and circumstance, China on Wednesday launched its first-ever lunar probe. It is expected to reach its orbit Nov. 5. The probe will spend more than a year scanning the moon's surface in preparation for the launch of an unmanned lunar vehicle in 2012.

For the first time in decades, NASA has posted an advertisement for astronaut candidates who are not expected to travel on the space shuttle. NASA is retiring the shuttle in 2010, so the astronauts will fly in the next generation of ships.

Google Inc. is bankrolling a $20 million out-of-this-world prize to the first private company that can safely land a robotic rover on the moon. OK everyone, I know we have some good talent in this club and we can do it. What am I saying?
