UROC Mourns the Passing of Richard Evans

Neal E Baker | Published on 6/20/2026
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of longtime Utah Rocket Club member Richard "Rich" Evans, who passed away on June 13, 2026, at the age of 66.

Rich was a valued member of the UROC community for many years and was well known throughout Tripoli and high-power rocketry circles. As a member of the Tripoli Level 3 Technical Advisory Panel (TAP), Rich helped numerous flyers achieve their Level 3 certifications, generously sharing his knowledge, experience, and time with those pursuing advanced rocketry goals.

At UROC launches, Rich was always willing to step in wherever needed. Whether serving as Range Safety Officer (RSO), Launch Control Officer (LCO), assisting fellow flyers, or mentoring new members, he could always be counted on to contribute. His technical expertise, dedication to safety, and willingness to help made him an important part of our club.

Those who knew Rich will also remember his wicked sense of humor, thoughtful perspective, and the camaraderie he brought to every launch. He was an upstanding member of our community and a friend to many.

Beyond rocketry, Rich lived a life of service and involvement. He served as a U.S. Army officer, enjoyed a successful career in information technology, and devoted countless hours to Scouting America, his faith community, archery, mountaineering, and many other pursuits. He touched the lives of countless people through his volunteerism, mentorship, and leadership.

On behalf of the Utah Rocket Club, we extend our deepest condolences to his wife Florence, daughters Stephanie and Rachel, and the rest of his family and friends.

Rich's contributions to our club and our hobby will not be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Fly High, Rich.
